EATING DISORDERS

ANOREXIA NERVOSA (Self - Starvation).

Extremely thin. ( Less than 85% of body weight )

Onset in early to middle adolescence

SYMPTOMS

Rapid Weight loss

Untreated Anorexia Nervosa leads to damaged organs esp. Heart, brain, kidneys.

Drop in B.P. , Pulse, breathing rate.

Loss of hair.

Loss of menstrual periods

Irregular heartbeat.

Osteoporosis.

Fluid - electrolyte imbalance

Nausea

Bloating

Constipation.

BULIMIA NERVOSA

SYMPTOMS

Onset in late teens Or early twenties, often after weight loss Or dieting attempts.

Eating Uncontrollably followed by purging.

Vomiting.

Using the bathroom frequently after meals.

Excessive Exercising.

*Dental Problems.

Sore throat.

Depression.

Feeling out of control .

Swollen glands in neck, face, heartburn.

Indigestion.

Bloating.

Irregular Periods.

Weakness.

COMPLICATIONS

Erosion of tooth enamel due to repeated exposure to acidic gastric contents.

Dental Cavities.

Tooth Sensitivity to hot Or cold food.

Swelling & Soreness in the salivary glands.

Stomach Ulcers.

Rupture of the stomach & Oesophagus.

Dehydration.

Irregular heartbeat.

Heart attack.

BINGE EATING DISORDER

SYMPTOMS

Onset at any age, often not recognized until adulthood

Obese Or Overweight.

Quite possible have Obesity - related diseases, like Type 2 diabetes,

High Blood Pressure, Higher Cholesterol.

Losing & Gaining weight.

Eating to a point of extreme discomfort.

Eating large amounts in short time.

Try to avoid physical activities .

Difficulty in exercising because of excessive weight.

Depression

Shame

Guilt

Feel uncomfortable while eating in front of others

Eating to escape from emotions ( anxiety, worry, emotional pain )

Realizing that eating patterns are abnormal.
